چکیده

Results are presented for spin-wave dispersions in geometrically frustrated stacked triangular antiferromagnets with a thin film or semi-infinite geometry having either zero, easy-plane, or easy-axis anisotropy. Surface effects on the equilibrium spin configurations and excitation spectrum are investigated for the case of antiferromagnetically coupled films, serving to extend previous results on ferromagnetically coupled layers E. Meloche et al., Phys. Rev. B. 74, 094424 2006 . An operator equation of motion formalism is applied to systems which are quasi-oneand quasi-two-dimensional in character. In contrast to the case of ferromagnetically coupled films, the results of this work show surface modes that are well separated in frequency from bulk excitations. Magnetic excitations in thin films with an even or an odd number of layers show qualitatively different behavior. These results are relevant for a wide variety of stacked triangular antiferromagnetic materials.

Approximate eigenvalue determination of geometrically frustrated magnetic molecules ∗

Geometrically frustrated magnetic molecules have attracted a lot of interest in the field of molecular magnetism as well as frustrated Heisenberg antiferromagnets. In this article we demonstrate how an approximate diagonalization scheme can be used in order to obtain thermodynamic and spectroscopic information about frustrated magnetic molecules. To this end we theoretically investigate an anti...

Effect of interlayer interactions and lattice distortions on the magnetic ground state and spin dynamics of a geometrically frustrated triangular-lattice antiferromagnet

We investigate the effects of interlayer interactions and lattice distortions on the noncollinear ground state and spin dynamics of a geometrically frustrated triangular-lattice antiferromagnet with implications for the multiferroic phase of doped CuFeO2, where both lattice distortions and anisotropy introduce anharmonic components into the spin ground state. In contrast to the single turn angl...

Spin-liquid state in the S=1/2 hyperkagome antiferromagnet Na4Ir3O8.

A spinel related oxide, Na(4)Ir(3)O(8), was found to have a three dimensional network of corner shared Ir(4+) (t(2g)(5)) triangles. This gives rise to an antiferromagnetically coupled S = 1/2 spin system formed on a geometrically frustrated hyperkagome lattice. Magnetization M and magnetic specific heat C(m) data showed the absence of long range magnetic ordering at least down to 2 K. The large...

Ultrafast spin dynamics in multisublattice magnets.

We propose a general theoretical framework for ultrafast laser-induced spin dynamics in multisublattice magnets. We distinguish relaxation of relativistic and exchange origin and show that when the former dominates, nonequivalent sublattices have distinct dynamics despite their strong exchange coupling. Even more interesting, in the exchange dominated regime sublattices can show highly counteri...
